Rules

Acceptance

The organizers retain all rights to the Challenge data, which is given to the participants for use in this challenge only. [Update: You may use the data freely, please see the datasets page for details.] The organizers may use the data submitted to the Challenge freely, without restrictions.

Eligibility

Anyone is allowed to participate. A participant may be either a single person or a group. A single person can participate in at most two groups. For the validation dataset, all results returned before the deadline are accepted, and only the best result will be shown in the results section. For the test dataset, the participant's last submission is considered to be the final result.

Winner selection

The Challenge is divided into two Competitions: Competition 1 and Competition 2. The winner for each Competition is selected separately. The participant with the highest classification accuracy for the test set wins. In case of draw, the participant with the lower Balanced Error Rate wins.

Workshop and publication

All good results will be acknowledged with fame and glory. Presentations for the challenge workshop will be selected by a programme committee based on the results and an extended abstract of at most 6 pages. Extended abstract should be in NIPS format, including details of methods and results. Correct format according to 2005 NIPS web site:

Submissions may be up to six pages in length, including figures and references, using a font no smaller than 10 point. Text is to be confined within a 8.25 inch by 5 inch rectangle. Detailed formatting instructions are available in PDF, Postscript, and RTF format. LaTeX support files are available: nips2005e.sty, nips2005.sty, nips2005.tex. Submissions violating these guidelines will not be considered. Web links to supplementary material (e.g. software, videos) may appear in the paper, but reviewers will not be required to view the supplementary material.

Arbitration

In the case of disagreement the organizers will decide the final interpretation of the rules.
